This summer I took the Leather Clutch class at the workroom.
Sewing with leather was a relatively new process for me – something I hadn’t done in a while at least. It is quite different from working with woven or knit fabrics. For instance, instead of pins, you use clamps.
Reva was a very helpful and knowledgeable instructor. She is a strong supporter of upcycling, and everyone in the class used old leather garments for their projects. This gray clutch used to be a leather jacket. And the Nani Iro lining was fabric I had left over from a dress I had made earlier this summer. One great thing about small projects is being able to use up fabric scraps you love!
They are always so busy at Dark Horse. It’s surprising I was able to capture a quiet moment. Right after one couple left, and right before another arrived.
A little while ago I posted about the baby hat I frequently knit for new parents. Another favorite knitting project is the Baby Moccasin from Purl Bee. They are super sweet and great for both baby girls and boys.
I love everyday items made special. You need to buy them anyway, so why not make them a little fun or interesting? Here are a few different types of sugar from France. The plaid packages have different places printed on each different colour – like Cannes or Saint-Martin. Not sure if I’m supposed to think that each packet contains cane sugar from the location specified…seems obscure, though possible?
The last time I was in Paris, I picked up some Daddy brand sugar at Monoprix. They even make sugar cubes in the shape of clovers, spades, hearts and diamonds. I’m sure they think nothing of the brand name, but when I saw it in the grocery I had to laugh. Then buy.
Vancouver designers at Kenda Haga’s Mimi & Marge are making some nice jewelery at great price points. For my last birthday, I got this necklace with silver and gold circles. It’s very subtle and works well with almost anything. I have been wearing it constantly.
One of my What I Wore Today illustrations is featured in the current issue of UK quarterly magazine N.E.E.T. Check out page 12 for three illustrations by various artists from the Flickr group. Thanks Stephanie and Gemma!
It was great to try a collection of three different chocolates put out by Elias Laederach, Fabian Rimann, and Giuliano Sargenti. They were the bronze medal winners at the bi-annual World Pastry Team Championships in 2008. The mango was my favorite.
