Reading Diane Pernet’s great blog, I recently learned of David Lynch’s fascinating Interview Project – A series of 121 short interviews, that take place on a road trip across the United States: Lynch’s team spoke with everyday Americans they met while travelling. Unlike many of his well-known films with complex and non-linear storytelling, like Mulholland Dr or Lost Highway, these portraits are straight forward and spontaneous.
I’ve only seen a few so far, but it would seem that these interviews still touch on some of Lynch’s usual themes like small town settings and abused or broken women. The first episode was posted back in June and they will be publishing new interviews every 3 days until they have revealed all 121. Definitely worth taking a look.
De Ruijter
Recently I learned about chocolate flakes that are served on toast for breakfast in Holland. I immediately realized that I needed to have them. And then I thought of the Dutch grocery in my old neighborhood. Sure enough, they stocked them.
One of my favorite things about it, aside from the obvious chocolate for breakfast part, is the shape of the little cut-out dispenser: slice of toast. Genius!

What I wore on Saturday
I have so many skirts and never seem to get the chance to wear any of them! In the summer I usually opt for dresses and when I do think of wearing one of my skirts I need to check how windy it is outside first. None of us like having to worry about holding our skirts down in fear of a Marilyn moment (of which I have unfortunately had a few. Hello financial district). So on the weekend when it was perfect skirt weather, I decided to venture out for the day in a striped wool pleated skirt and black tights. It felt great to finally bring out the fall skirt and hopefully I’ll have the chance to do it again during this brief window before it gets too cold!

Gold
Every season, one of my favorite chocolate companies, Ritter Sport, releases new special and limited edition flavours. For this Winter 09 I’ve sampled the gingerbread (Spekulatius) as well as the eggnog (Eierlikör Trüffel). The gingerbread was quite nice: a crispy gingerbread cookie covered in milk chocolate. I can’t fairly comment on the eggnog though, as I’m not a fan in general. But I can say that it does photograph nicely.
The pot of gold (Goldschatz) is a new limited edition, and it is a good solid milk chocolate. It also looks super cute stacked like tiny gold bars.
Baby Knits
With so many friends having babies, I get to make time for knitting! And I really don’t mind. Knitting for babies is so gratifying – they look good in anything, and it’s relatively quick to finish a project. This baby hat in progress is one of my go-to patterns
Instead of buying stitch markers, I simply use safety pins.
